2021 Membership renewal and Winter Dinner cancellation

Greetings fellow CLSA members

I am excited to share some news with you about our annual membership renewal campaign. We are implementing some changes to increase member convenience, and at the same time update our fiscal practices. This has resulted in a slight delay in sending out invoices, but I believe the results are well worth it.

This year's membership renewals will be done electronically. Invoices will be sent to you via email, and you will be able to pay online (by credit card), or mail a check in as you have done in the past. You can print out a pdf copy of the invoice for your records, or store it electronically if you prefer. We now have a relationship with Quickbooks that allows us to process electronic payments, both for membership renewals and for our other events.

Your invoice will have instructions on how to pay online, or if you prefer, to mail a check. This year checks will be sent to our new association bookkeeper, Donna Anderson. Donna has been retained by our board to support the treasurer, and has been hard at work organizing our records and preparing us for the new year.

Invoices have been prepared based upon your current membership level and dock and rack use. Under the terms of our lease with the state, there are fees for any use of a tie-up (dock), rack, or lake-side storage. There are no exceptions allowed. Associated with these storage fees there is also a required harbor maintenance fee stipulated in our lease. We are able to limit this fee to one per member in the event you have multiple docks, racks or a combination thereof.

If you have questions regarding your invoice, please contact the CLSA Treasurer, Mark Hardenbergh at Treasurer@clsa.club or myself at Commodore@clsa.club.

The second change is that the paper form each of us filled out in the past to provide our preferred race committee dates and work party preferences will be done electronically. Please look for a separate communication about that. To be clear, your payment date will be added to that information once collected for use in prioritizing race committee assignments.

In a final bit of news for this announcement, I am sorry to report that we have formally cancelled this year's Winter Dinner.  The executive committee and board considered options carefully before making the decision. In light of the continuing pandemic and uncertainty over the next several months, we determined that there is no way for us to safely hold a formal event that would attract nearly 100 attendees. Erring on the side of caution and out of respect for the health and safety of our members, we determined the best action was to forego this year's event.  Vice-commodore Michael Conrad will be working on the plans for the upcoming Memorial day party and hopefully we will be able to take care of all the pomp and circumstance from the Winter Dinner on Memorial day.

Please continue to monitor the CLSA website as we begin to plan for the new sailing season.

Best regards,

Pete Japikse
