CLSA Season Update

Some of you received automated email reminders about work parties this weekend. There are no work parties scheduled, everything that was scheduled for this weekend has been postponed indefinitely. We apologize for those reminder emails.

As to our season:  On April 2 the governor extended the stay-at-home order through May 1, and initiated other safety practices, including a ban on organized sporting activities. CLSA will comply with all the orders that the Governor and Health Department have put in place, in order to protect our members.

With that in mind, we know that people need a place to go that is “home-away-from-home” and where they can walk around, feel safe, and still observe social distancing. Our lake-side property at Cowan lake is ideal for that purpose. Some of our members have already been walking the grounds while observing appropriate social distancing. If you wish to visit the club, you may do so. Please observe all appropriate guidelines with respect to the pandemic.

Here is an update on our calendar and scheduled activities:

  • CLSA will not organize or schedule any work parties until the “all clear” to do so is given by appropriate officials. That means some of our facilities are still in winter storage mode, but others are ready for use.
  • Clubhouse:Our clubhouse is open. The water is on, kitchen is prepared for use, and a few of the picnic tables have been placed for use.Members may use this building but need to clean up after themselves. We do not have cleaning or garbage service turned on yet, please do not leave food or beverages in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • Shelterhouse: You may use the picnic tables and the open-air area at the shelter house, but the bathhouse and showers are not available for use at this time.
  • Docks: All assigned docks will be ready for use after Saturday, April 4. Members may launch their boats and moor them in their assigned dock. Please note that the state has not installed the floating docks at the launch ramp yet, so the facility there is limited.
  • Lifts: CLSA will not organize or schedule any lift parties until the all-clear is given by government and health officials. Under the latest order from the Ohio Department of Health, all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household are prohibited. This order becomes effective Monday, April 6 and extends until May 1. Once this order expires and is not renewed, and it becomes lawful for members to work together in small groups, lift owners may work together in small groups to launch and set their lifts, and lift parties will be arranged. The pink lady is currently in the water and available for use. Please review and follow the safety procedures published on our web page for lift work.
  • Racing program: Our racing program is on hold indefinitely and will not start until after it is safe to officially open the club and hold organized sports activities. There will be enough time after club opening and before racing begins to place lifts in the water and launch boats. Also, race committee assignments will not be issued until we can set the schedule for club opening and racing activities.

We are hopeful that each of you continues to stay healthy.  Perhaps this is the unplanned but perfect time to finish chores and honey-do lists at home, or tune your boat in the driveway, while at the same time telecommuting to keep business functioning.  Keep in mind, this WILL END eventually; when it does, we are looking forward to joining together as a sailing family at CLSA, and enjoying some SAILBOAT RACING!!

Stay well and stay in touch with each other!

Sincerely,

Dan Adams, Commodore and Pete Japikse, Vice-Commodore
