All -
Pete Japikse and his robust team have spent 3 weekends of frequently wet and wintery work completing some much-needed maintenance on the waterfront. Great thanks are deserved to the team that put out this effort, and have extended again the life of these mission-critical pieces of our infrastructure. More is to be done, in particular the plans for the paddle dock have now to be realized, but lots has been done. I will let the final report, below in its full rendition, speak for itself!
Thank you again to all that participated -

CLSA Harbor repairs – 2019
Final report:
22 Dock pilings repaired:
- The tops of the pilings have worn from weather and wave action. The bases of the pilings are still secure in the lake bed.
- Each piling was boxed in with 2 x 10 lumber. The boxes were applied to the top of the pilings, supporting the pie dock itself. Boxes extended down either 48 or 55 inches as needed. Entire piling was not boxed in to minimize weight impact on pilings.
- The boxes were attached to the pilings with lag bolts and through bolted. Boxes were nailed together at edges to maintain shape and form.
- This same process was used 5 years ago on a small number of docks and has weathered well.
- At this point, all of the docks from 1 – 92 have been treated this way.Docks with higher numbers have metal posts and do not need this work.
Docks 1 – 92 have been fastened to prevent float-offs
Running boards between docks 1 and 92 have been replaced or reattached
- 56 feet of running board has been repaired. The boards were attached to either existing or new seawall posts using lag bolts.
- This completes the repair and replacement of running boards that was started 5 years ago.
2 Dock pilings refastened to lake bed
- The dock pilings for docks 92 and 79 had become detached from the lake bed. The post on 92 was a new post several years ago, and 79 had broken off. Both posts were still in usable condition.
- The posts were anchored to the lake bed by driving galvanized pipe into the lake bed at angles and then anchoring the pipe to the posts with lag bolts. The opposing angle of the piping is intended to hold the post in position.
Pie dock at 64 was replaced
Volunteer labor
- Three organized work parties with club volunteers.
- 6 additional work days with just the 3 organizers for setup, materials prep, and transport and delivery of materials to lake
