So the forecast looks scary? Think again!

Despite incredible advances in weather prediction technology, there's still no substitute for being there. We all have our favorite forecast sites, but when it comes down to deciding  whether or not to sail, the best information always comes from what's going on at the venue and for that, you really just have to go and see what's happening. Lesson to be learned: Be a good seaman and check out the conditions for yourself!

Many sailors (including yours truly) were scared off from sailing last weekend, probably from looking at brilliantly colored online radar maps predicting fire and brimstone to rain down upon Cowan Lake during Sunday afternoon.

As it turns out, the Flying Scot fleet must have had some inside info because they showed up in force with 10 boats for a good turn about the bouys. A few intrepid MC's and Snipes also raced. As our esteemed Commodore puts it (she was out there racing): "Racing on Sunday was fabulous. It was windy and cloudy and the best of best summer racing.  I was very depowered.  We were so lucky the thunderstorms held off.  All we had was a little drizzle at the end."

And the rest of us missed out on the fun.
